Big G Software's New Version Three of
Volleyball Stats is now shipping. Current users may download the free upgrade from
the downloads section of this web site.
Version Three no longer runs under Windows 3.x. It
requires Windows 95 or later.
The main improvements are:
- Requires less memory to run. If you had problems
running Version 99-1 on your computer, try this new one.
- Has built in menu driven Backup and Restore functions which
compress the data files so that they fit on one diskette.
- Has a file recovery function which will fix many damaged file
problems.
You may keep stats for an unlimited number of leagues,
teams, players and seasons.
The program contains an extensive help file and a Microsoft Word 97 document which
produces a printed manual.
When using the program, the following sequence of events is followed:
- Erase The Sample Data -- The program is shipped with
sample data for several teams for several seasons so that you may experiment with the
various features and reports without having to enter your own test data. After
experimentation is complete, and you have a feel for the way the program works, you should
erase the sample data before beginning to enter your own data. Sample data is erased
by selecting "Delete All Stats and Start Over" from the Utilities Menu.
- Set Up One or More Leagues -- Each team must be
assigned to a league, so before setting up teams you must set up a league. Select
"Enter or Edit League Info" from the File Menu.
- Set Up One or More Teams -- Each team is assigned to
a league. Select "Enter or Edit Team Info" from the File Menu.
- Set Up One or More Seasons -- All data entry is
matched to a season. Select "Enter or Edit Season Info" from the File
Menu.
- Set Up User Defined Stats for Each Team for Each Season
-- The program keeps 36 pre-defined stats for your team and your opponents game stats, and
allows you to name four additional stats to be kept. These user defined stats will
be totaled and averaged, but there is no provision for you to enter formulas for
calculating with these stats. Select "Enter or Edit User Defined Stats"
from the File Menu.
- Set Up Performance Rating Scale Values for Each Team for
Each Season -- The program calculates a performance rating for each player and for
the team when printing reports. You set up a plus / minus point scale to be used in
this calculation. Select "Enter or Edit Rating Scale Values" from the File
Menu.
- Enter Player Names Into the File -- Player names are
not entered directly into the roster. Since this is a multi season program, a player
can progress from Freshman to JV to Varsity in subsequent years. The player file
contains the players name and address information. Select "Enter or Edit Player
Names" from the File Menu.
- Set Up a Roster for Each Team for Each Season --
Players from the player file are assigned to a roster each season. The roster also
includes jersey number, class, position, etc. Select "Enter or Edit
Roster" from the File Menu.
- Set Up a Schedule for Each Team for Each Season --
The schedule is optional. It does not interact with the program in any way. It
is included as a convenience for you to be able to print a schedule from the
program. Select "Enter or Edit Schedule" from the File Menu.
- Print a Data Entry Summary Sheet -- Prior to
summarizing your data for entry into the computer, print a summary sheet. It lists
each player on your roster plus your opponent and organizes the data for easy entry into
the program. Select "Data Entry Summary Sheet" from the Reports Menu.
- Enter Match Stats -- For the current season, you
will enter your stats match by match. You may print match reports, season reports,
etc as the season progresses. Select "Enter Match Stats" from the File
Menu.
- Enter Season Stats -- If you have historical season
data, you may enter it into the program by season rather than having to enter it match by
match. Select "Enter Season Data" from the File Menu.
- Edit Match or Season Data -- You may edit any data
previously entered. Simply select the match or season to be edited and make
corrections in the same manner as you entered the original data.
Reports available include reports for the current season for
your team and multi season reports for your team and/or league. Reports may be sent
to the printer, screen, text file on disk, or HTML file on disk. When selecting
matches to be included in a report, you may select them one at a time from a list of
available matches, select all matches, select by category -- home, away, neutral
site; conf or non-conf; tournament; reg season, pre season, post
season, or practice -- or any combination of these categories. The following reports
are available from the program (click on the menu at left to view sample reports):
- Team Detail Reports -- These reports list each
player's stats along with totals for your team and your opponent. You may select one
match or any number of matches from the same season.
- Individual Player Report -- This report lists stats
for all matches played by a player plus totals and per match averages. You select
the matches to be included in the report.
- Per Game Average Report -- This report is similar to
a team detail report, except that it lists each player's averages rather than their total
stats for each match. You select the games to be included in the report.
- Season Detail Report -- Similar to a team detail
report except that the source of the report is data which was entered as season data
rather than match by match data. Allows you to print reports based on your
historical data which was entered on a season basis.
- Rank Players -- Ranks players for one season on any
stat or stats you select. You may select one or all stats kept by the program.
All selected stats will be combined into one report. You select the matches to be
included in the report.
- Season Summary Report -- Lists all matches played to
date for one season, along with matches won & lost season, conf, non-conf, home, away,
and neutral site.
- Roster -- You may print a roster for any team for
any season. You have the option of entering six lines of text to be printed at the
bottom of the roster. This text may include coaches names, phone numbers, team
managers, etc.
- Schedule -- You may print a schedule for any team
for any season. You have the option of entering six lines of text to be printed at
the bottom of the schedule. This text may include coaches names, phone numbers, team
managers, legend for conf games, homecoming, etc.
- Team Summary Reports -- A team summary is similar in
format to a team detail report, except rather than printing stats for individual players,
team stats for each match are printed along with team totals and per game averages.
You select matches to be included.
- Opponent Reports -- Although opponents team stats
are printed at the bottom of team detail reports, you may also print a report of opponents
team stats for any group of matches you select. Totals and per game averages are
printed at the bottom of this report.
- Mailing Labels -- You may print mailing labels for
league commissioners, coaches, and players. The program gives you a choice of four
of the more standard sizes of labels in two formats -- a one up format for dot matrix
printers, and a sheet label format for laser and ink-jet printers.
- Player List -- You may print a list of players which
includes their name, address, and phone numbers.
- Data Entry Summary Sheet -- Print this sheet for
your team before summarizing your match or season data for entry into the program.
It prints your players names and your opponent along with space to record data for each
stat.
- Multi-Season Team Summary -- Similar to the team
summary report, except that it prints team season data for each season selected along with
totals and per season averages. You select the seasons to be included.
- Multi-Season Individual Player Stats -- Similar to
the individual player report, except that it prints individual player season data for the
players and seasons selected. It also prints totals and per game averages.
- Multi-Team / Multi-Season Player Ranking -- This is
a league report. You select the league, the team(s), the seasons, and the stats to
be ranked. You may also select the number of players to be included in the ranking
-- from all players to top 10 or top 25, etc.
- Multi-Team / Multi-Season Team Ranking --
Similar to the Multi-Season Player Ranking report above, except that teams are ranked
based on their team stats.
